I chose to focus on and research
the e-commerce business information systems. Electronic and mobile commerce,
which entails transactions between business to business, business to consumer,
or consumer to consumer transactions. Evolution has led further to mobile
commerce which is the same sort of transactions only conducted on mobile
devices in this case, making it easier to accomplish the same activities while
completely on the move. The advantages of e-commerce and m-commerce to manual
commerce mostly relate to speed. This us due to the amount of automation and
programmable settings which can be dictated and monitored by management and
other departments to make sure, in business to business transactions for
example, that no specific employee steps beyond his or her allotted funds.
In the case
of e-commerce the input would be the user or employee credentials and contact
information and the items they wish to order. The processing can be
accomplished through mobile (cell phone, tablet, or laptop computer) means or
by any other electronic means (computers). The data input after processed would
be output into purchase order for example and could be filed away to catalog
company trends or possible future necessity. The feedback could be easily
gleaned from the output in this case since in most business to business
transactions, upper level management has access to user transactions. Perhaps
they could take prior input requests and create further changes to streamline
these consistent requests or file for a group discount if certain patterns
arise from employee purchases.
An example
of e-commerce or mobile commerce could be the amazon web store, which is accessible
and used by businesses and consumers in an almost symbiotic environment. Users
can sell items as well as purchase them, and businesses can purchase items as
well as sell them. The mobile app created for amazon streamlines the user base
since most everyone is using a smart phone in conjunction with their normal
business practices.
